First look….

Well, as you can see, no one showed up to “my party”. I’m sure some in the audience see it as “my comeupance”. I can’t blame them for that.

In truth, the post was a last minute idea and no one involved in its creation expected more than one commitment, if we were lucky. By the way, I backed Butler, so it was a bad night all around.

Although one might think the post a complete failure, I do not. Phone calls were made. Emails were sent with none undelivered. There is a lot to be learned from silence. Based on calls received today, that silence did not go unnoticed.

I’ve just heard that the quartet of Hunst, O’Brien, Thillens and Wynn Ryan were declared the winners. So, for the most part, Board leadership and direction will remain the same.

To the loosing candidates, you did your best. To the winners, well done!

Of course I am. I’m still recovering from the Butler-UConn game. How could a loyal Midwesterner not be?

Oh, you were talking about the election. Not really. I held a minority position and the majority won - just the way it's supposed to work.

How about you? Are you sad?

The best and most qualified candidates won. Aside from the Union issue, not one of the other candidates: brought any new ideas to the campaign, attended even one Park Board Meeting during the campaign, gave voters even any sort of justification why they were deserving of their vote.

KauserSosay,

I fear you're right. And isn't that a sad comment for a community like Park Ridge?

From a glass-half-empty perspective, it is a sad comment that better candidates did not enter the race. From a glass-half-full perspective, it looks like the voters (the few who actually turned out) were able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Cincy,

They did indeed!

Mr B:

Sad commentary - I guess, but perhaps you should come out of the Senior Center long enough to take a look around. This is a town that cannot even get enough people involved to run a full slate for Aldermen!! Every election there over half the elections are uncontested. This year a guy had to file last minute as a write (3rd Ward) or the Mayor would have had to appoint someone!!!

Guess what??? I completely understand this!! I am not saying that ANY of these people (Park District, Aldermen or School Board) are perfect but look at what the job entails. I would NEVER run for any of those positions and, agree or disagree with some of their decisions, I offer a HUGE thank you to those who do run. Have you seen the number of meetings that these people attend? The committment of time is HUGE. Of course they get that big paycheck, right?? Nope, what they get is every single decision or comment questioned by very vocal blogosphere. There motives are questioned. They are given these wonderful nick names. Of course the answer you will get from these people is that "if they do not want to do it they schould not have run". That takes us back to where I started which is we already cannot get people to run!!

By the way, I do not recall seeing Butterly on any ballot.

Two things.

You stated: "I would NEVER run for any of those positions and, agree or disagree with some of their decisions, I offer a HUGE thank you to those who do run."

I'm sorry you feel that way. Maybe you should.

You stated: "By the way, I do not recall seeing Butterly on any ballot."

Maybe you just havn't been around here long enough!
